Facing the Music (Conducting Workshop)

On the weekend of Friday 31st Oct to Sunday 2nd Nov 2008, the Broken Hill orchestra hosted a workshop about conducting instrumental and vocal ensembles. The tutor was Brian Buggy OAM, who was Director of Music at Knox Grammar School, and has also conducted concerts with symphony orchestras around Australia for the ABC.

Musicians from many local bands, choirs and schools took part in the workshop. It provided the participants with lots of "hands on" practice at conducting in a non-threatening environment. Brian imparted valuable advice for conductors, mixed with a sparking dose of humour. He also provided insight into the role of conducting for those on the other side of the conductor's baton.

The workshop concluded with a presentation of two works written and arranged by Brian especially for the workshop, and performed by the combined workshop participants.
