Performances during 2009

In April 2009, the Broken Hill Orchestra performed a concert for a tour group visiting with John Howie (well-known as one of the "Howie Brothers"). In May the orchestra performed for an enthusiastic audience of over 300 people who attended a fashion parade at the White House, as part of the CWA State Conference held in Broken Hill. This was followed in July by a combined performance with the Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC) from Armidale. The concert was held in Broken Hill's historic Wesley Church.

The orchestra's Penguins at an Exhibition concert took place at the Regional Art Gallery on Sunday 6th September. A combined local primary schools group performed together with the orchestra for several items. Interestingly, this was the first time we have had a harpist playing with the orchestra.

Guest artist for this concert was Don Mudie, singing the Broken Hill Theme and Road to Mandalay, accompanied by the orchestra. The orchestra parts used for Road to Mandaly were original 1930's scores from a Melbourne radio station orchestra, on loan to BHCO especially for this occasion.

In late September the orchestra took part in Broken Hill's annual Prom Concert. For 2009, this concert was held at a different venue, namely the Entertainment Centre. In a rousing finale to the evening, the orchestra combined with the Broken Hill Philharmonic Society to perform Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March, better known as "Land of Hope and Glory".
