2011 Workshop with Dr Kevin Cameron
On the weekend of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th Feb 2011, the Broken Hill orchestra hosted a workshop with acclaimed conductor and musical educator, Dr Kevin Cameron.
The workshop was attended by instrumentalists from all sections of the orchestra, and it was pleasing to see some of the orchestra's newer members taking part. Participants gained lots of valuable "hands on" advice and guidance in the interpretation of music which was being prepared for forthcoming concerts. Dr Cameron brought the music to life in new ways, and also provided lots of interesting background information about some of the composers.
Music which was worked on during the weekend workshop included:
- Concerto No. 1 in A minor by Bach
- Mazurka from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky
- A Tribute to Lerner and Lowe (show tunes)
- Theme from "Star Wars" by John Williams
- Theme from "On Golden Pond" by Dave Grusin
- Ragtime Dance by Scott Joplin
The workshop was made possible by a grant from the Australian Government Regional Arts Fund.
